Tyler Newbold (born December 6, 1986) is a 6’5” SG from Payson, UT. He last played for Auckland Pirates of New Zealand’s NBZL.

Utah State Career

2010-11 SEASON (SR): Started all 34 games for the Aggies during his senior campaign, playing 29.3 minutes per game… Averaged 6.8 points, 2.8 assists and a career-best 4.4 rebounds per game… Was named to the WAC all-defensive team, recording 8 blocks and 25 steals on the season… Was a preseason selection to the all-WAC second team… Named to the USU hosted World Vision Invitational all-tournament team, averaging 9 points, 3.3 assists and 4.7 rebounds per game during the tournament…Scored in double-figures nine times on the season, and recorded a season-high of 17 points against Hawaii (1/29)… Recorded a season-high 11 rebounds vs Louisiana Tech (1/20), then one week later Went for a season-high seven assists at San Jose State (1/27)… Led the team in rebounding five times and scoring twice… Earned academic all-district honors.

2009-10 SEASON (JR.): One of three players on the team along with Jared Quayle and Tai Wesley to start all 35 games during the season, which is tied for the most in school history… Finished the year ranking fifth in the WAC in three-point shooting at 42.1 percent and averaged 8.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.9 assists, while shooting 44.4 percent from the field and 88.1 percent at the free throw line… Played 1,050 minutes during the season which ranked second on the team (30.0)… Was also second on the team in three-pointers made (59) and attempted (140), and third in assists (102)… Had an assist-to-turnover ratio of 3.4-to-1.0 during the season, which included a 3.0-to-1.0 ratio during WAC play to lead the league…  Scored in double-figures 13 times during the season, including a season-high 15 points against Weber State (11/13), Morehead State (12/21) and Hawai’i (1/11)… Was a perfect 5-of-5 from three-point range against UH which is tied for the best shooting percent from three in a single-game in school history… Recorded his first-ever double-double against Western Oregon (12/29) with 11 points and a career-high 11 rebounds… Tied his career-high with 11 rebounds at Nevada (1/13)… Played a career-high 44 minutes in that same game against the Wolf Pack… Took two charges and recorded two dunks during the season… Recorded five or more assists five times during the season… Lead the team in assists four times and in rebounding twice… Earned CoSIDA academic all-district honors… An academic all-WAC honoree… Voted by his teammates as the player that Best Represents Utah State Basketball for the second year in a row.

2008-09 SEASON (SO.): Started all 35 games at shooting guard and led the team in minutes played with 1,134 (32.4 mpg), which ranks sixth all-time in school history for a single-season… Averaged 9.0 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game, while shooting 43.1 percent from the field, 39.5 percent from three-point range and 76.2 percent from the free throw line… Finished the year with an assist-to-turnover ratio of 3.96-to-1.00, which led the nation and ranked first all-time at Utah State…  That assist-to-turnover ratio is also a single-season NCAA record… Rankedseventh in the WAC in three-point shooting and 10th in assists per game… Led the team with 60 made thee-pointers and was tied for the team lead in three-point attempts (152)… Had 111 assists during the season, to rank second on the team, to go along with just 28 turnovers… Scored in double-figures 14 times during the season, including a career-high 21 points against UC Irvine (12/2) as he was 8-of-11 from the field and 3-of-4 from behind the arc… Recorded a then career-high nine rebounds against Brigham Young (12/6) and Hawai’i (2/26), and had a career-high eight assists at New Mexico State (1/10)… Made a 12-foot baseline jumper with just over three seconds to play to defeat New Mexico State, 71-70, in the semifinals of the 2009 WAC Tournament (3/13)… Finished the year second on the team with six charges taken to go along with two dunks… Led the team in assists 13 times and rebounding four times… An academic all-WAC selection… Voted by his teammates as the player the Best Represents Utah State Basketball along with Jared Quayle.

2007-08 SEASON (FR.): Started 25 games in his first season of Division I basketball and averaged 5.4 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.6 assists, while shooting 54.7 percent from the field, 51.5 percent from three-point range and 83.9 percent from the free throw line… As a starter, he averaged 7.1 points and 3.0 rebounds… Averaged 21.5 minutes per game and played at least 20 minutes in every game he started, including a season-high 34 in two separate games… Played 30-plus minutes five times… Scored in double-figures six times including a season-high 20 points at New Mexico State (1/26) as he was 6-of-8 from the field, 5-of-7 from three-point range and 3-of-4 from the free throw line… Also had a season-high seven rebounds at NMSU and recorded a season-best six assists at Boise State (3/6)… Had an outstanding WAC Tournament as he averaged 17.5 points in two games, while shooting 75.0 percent from the field (12-16) and 75.0 percent from three-point range (9-12)… Finished tied for third on the team with five charges taken and also had three dunks during the year… Was Utah State’s leading scorer once and top rebounder five times during the season… Also led the team in assists in three games… Voted by his teammates as the team’s Best Defensive Player during the season.

Newbold averaged 11.4 ppg and 6.2 rpg in New Zealand’s NBL with Auckland.
